Herpangina is a viral infection caused by enteroviruses, which causes small, blister-like ulcers at the back of the throat and the roof of the mouth.
It maily occurs in the children of 3 to 10 years. They may complain of a sore throat and fever when they contract Herpangina.
Herpangina is caused by group A Coxsackieviruses, sometimes Group B Coxsackieviruses, Enterovirus 71 and Echovirus are also responsible for causing herpangina.
These virus are very contagious, which can spread rapidly through the fecal-oral route - by contamination of hands or from the respiratory route - by sneezing or coughing.
The symptoms include high fever, sore thraot, blisters in mouth and throat, headache and neck pain, difficulty in swallowing, swollen lymph nodes, loss of apetitie, drooling and vomiting
Children also refuse to eat or drink due to the pain, which makes them at the increased risk of dehydration. Visit your doctor immediately after seeing the following symptoms.
