Human body is made up of trillions of cells, which grow, divide and die in an orderly manner. This process is regulated and controlled by the DNA within the cell.
In children the normal cell growth and division is rapid and in adults it is normal. Most of the cells grow to replace the dying cells.
Sometimes the cells of the body grow out of control and become cancerous. The cancer cells continously grow and form new, abnormal cells. These cells can also invade other tissues.
Cancer cells grow from the normal cells when their DNA or blue prints within the cell nucleus is damaged. DNA is
present in every cell and it Siontrols the cell’s actions, growth, death, protein synthesis etc. when DNA is damaged the cell either repairs the damage or the cell dies.
The damaged DNA is not repaired in the cancer cell and the cell does not die. It grows more such abnormal cells with abnormal DNA. The new cells also have the same defective DNA of the original cancer cell.
DNA damage can be inherited from parents or may be a spontaneous problem. This is called a mutation. DNA damage may
also be triggered by certain environmental toxins like cigarette smoke. There are multiple factors that may cause cancer and it is difficult to pin point an exact cause.
