The HIV virus destroys a the white blood cell of the immune system called a T-helper cells or CD4 cells and makes the copies of itself.
HIV on its own it does not kill you, the virus can grow and survive in the body by infecting and destroying the immune system.
The continous attack of virus on the immune system makes it weaker and weaker until it is no longer able to fight off infections.
Then the infection become chronic. During this phase, a person may have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, and some times severe symptoms.
If HIV left untreated, the virus infection eventually progresses until the immune system is too weak to defend against life-threatening infections and cancers.
This stage is called AIDS. AIDS is a set of symptoms and illnesses that happen at the final stage of HIV infection.
